CLOSING A TRADEWe just made a big improvement to the SwitchGames trading platform based on member feedback. We listen very closely to what you want so if you haven't yet submitted any suggestions, complaints, etc. we strongly encourage you to do so.
THE ISSUE: As you may know, if either member involved in a trade has any outstanding items on their Transaction Checklist, a trade is considered "incomplete" or "in progress". Because of this, some members were ending up with trades in limbo, which effectively tied up the games in a transaction and filled their Live Transactions interface with lots of transactions that were irrelevant.
THE SOLUTION:
- When a trade remains incomplete for 14 days, you will now see a CLOSE THIS TRADE button present
- Either member involved in the trade can begin closing the trade
- Once closing begins, each user has 10 days to wrap up their tasks, including member rating (if not already done)
- When a trade remains incomplete for 30 days, SwitchGames automatically begins the trade closing process
- Once a trade begins the closing process, any of your items that were involved in the transaction can be re-listed in your My Stuff
Please let us know what you think and report any issues you might find!
Integrated USPS Postage is now Live! INTEGRATED USPS POSTAGE NOW ON SWITCHGAMES! You can now add USPS postage to all of your automatic mailing labels! It's super simple to do and makes sending out your games a lot easier.
FREE PACKAGE TRACKING! That's right... no matter what service option you choose, every postage purchase comes with free tracking number. You also have ability to track a package right from the Live Transactions interface.
WHERE CAN I DO THIS? You can get to a mailing label while managing a trade in Manage Trades>Live Transactions as well as Mail Labels>Automatic Labels.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. You will notice the "Add Postage" button is now present in all of your mailing labels.
2. Clicking on that button, the pop-up will lead you through buying postage for the mailing label (major credit card required)
3. Once the postage is purchased, you simply click "Print" as you normally would
It's THAT easy.
We hope you like the new mailing label feature. Feel free to give us feedback and or suggestions! We love hearing from you.
Recent Updates (yay) 1. DUPLICATES Some of you were having issues with duplicate user ratings. The issue is now fixed so you shouldn't see that problem crop up anymore.
2. MY STUFF NOT SHOWING It was a condition where users were sometimes not able to see their My Stuff lists. We figured out what was causing this and now it's fixed.
3. VERIFIED MEMBERSHIP OPTION Non-verified members now have the option to start the Verified Membership process by rolling over another member's Verified Badge or when making a trade offer to someone. Remember, Verified Membership helps a lot! 96% of the SwitchGames community prefers trading with a Verified Member.
4. AUTOMATIC USPS POSTAGE LABELS Members can now instantly add USPS postage to their automatic labels in the trade management interface within Live Transactions. Postage is coming soon to other areas of the site to make it even easier.
PLEASE KEEP THE BUG REPORTS AND SUGGESTIONS COMING!

New Blog FormatHi! The blog now feeds on the SwitchGames homepage so we're going to be using this for more direct communication and participation with you. You'll see a lot more technical and development type posts here from now on. We encourage everyone to comment on posts.
SwitchGames Featured in Cool Hunting After sitting with our CEO, Jason Crawford, Josh Teixeira wrote an article on SwitchGames, which was posted today. For those of you who don't know, Cool Hunting is a daily update on ideas and products in the intersection of art, design, culture and technology. In the article, founder Jason Crawford explains, "most web development tasks are cleanly split between designers and developers but with high level AJAX development the line between art and code is very much blurred. Getting our developers to think like designers and coaxing our designers to think like developers allowed us to accomplish many things that even experienced web technologists said could not be done." Check out the full article here.
SwitchGames on BuzzFocus.com! Our COO Kai sat down with Michele Alfonso from BuzzFocus.com to chat about SwitchGames. The piece does a nice job of letting people know what SwitchGames is all about in just a few minutes. Check it out!
COO Kai Bond in AM New York Featured in today's issue of AM New York, our fearless COO Kai Bond was all over NYC today (in print). Journalist Mark Brooks did a great job getting to the essence of what SwitchGames is all about. You can read the full article here.
Putting Gamers in ControlThere is a lot of buzz surrounding the press release we made today. It talks about how SwitchGames is creating a pipeline into the used game market by allowing members to donate a percentage their game sales to the people that made the game. To be clear:
1. THIS WILL BE 100% OPTIONAL 2. SWITCHGAMES MAKES $0 FROM PAYING PUBLISHERS / DEVELOPERS
As with everything else we are doing with SwitchGames, this feature is to EMPOWER members to take control of the secondary game market. If you want to pay a publisher, the mechanism is there to do that. If you don't think publishers deserve anything, then publishers don't get anything.
While reading today's posts and comments about our press release, it seemed to illuminate some fundamental misunderstandings of what SwitchGames stands for. Yes... most online options for used games are either the same hustle as GameStop or ineffective trading sites that are confusing, cost money, and tell you what your game is worth. SwitchGames is an infrastructure and a platform created to allow gamers to gain complete control over their used game values and transactions. You can use SwitchGames for $0. We are not a "bait & switch" operation and we take pride in being completely transparent and fair. We make our money through OPTIONAL services that make transacting on SwitchGames safer, easier, and faster.
Stores and websites should not be dictating what our games are worth. We live in a capitalistic and free society where the market should determine values, not corporations. GameStop generates billions of dollars annually because we let them tell us a used game is worth $17 when WE sell it, but somehow that same used game is worth $55 when THEY sell it.
Made by gamers for gamers, SwitchGames always offers 100% free trading of games. On SwitchGames, MEMBERS decide the value of what they own. Whether trading, buying or selling, SwitchGames offers a social marketplace and toolset that empowers you to gain control of the used game market.
SwitchGames on Destructoid D-toid writer Nick Chester talked a little bit about how gamers will have the option to donate a portion of their sale proceeds to the people who made them. You can read it here.
Review of SwitchGames on DasGamer In an item titled "SwitchGames.com: Possible Gamestop Killer?", the author does a thorough and fair analysis of where SwitchGames is right now, also pointing out there is a lot more to come. It's a very good read. Check it.
SwitchGames Featured on The Escapist Journalist Keane Ng wrote an excellent piece on SwitchGames that does a very good job of illuminating the big picture and explains what SwitchGames is all about. Check it out!
SwitchGames Coverage on Ripten Our founder spent a little time chatting and joking around with video game journalist Emily Balistrieri, who is now an active member of the SwitchGames community. Yay! You can see her coverage here.
